Custom Curriculum & Staff Development
Growing students. Supporting the people who serve them.
Saddle & Sage creates hands-on educational experiences for students and restorative professional-learning experiences for the adults who support them.
Drawing on 25 years of K–12 experience, we develop customized plant, agriculture, nature, and career-connected curriculum while also helping schools and organizations strengthen employee well-being, connection, resilience, and the protective factors that can reduce the risk of burnout.
Programs may include student instruction, customized curriculum, staff development, leadership planning, implementation support, or a combination of services.
Staff Development & Educator Well-Being
Stress is inevitable. Burnout is not.
Educators and school employees carry enormous responsibility. Meaningful staff development should not add another demand to an already overwhelming workload—or imply that employees can solve systemic burnout by simply becoming more resilient.
Our staff-development experiences combine hands-on planting, guided reflection, practical stress-mitigation strategies, and team connection. The goal is to help participants identify what drains them, recognize what restores them, and strengthen the individual and organizational protective factors that allow people to remain connected to their purpose.
Cultivate & Thrive
Our educator well-being experiences are organized around five interconnected practices:
Reconnect - Reconnect with purpose, people, and the reasons participants were drawn to this work.
Restore - Explore realistic practices that help regulate stress, replenish energy, and create moments of recovery during demanding days.
Reflect - Recognize personal stress patterns, workplace conditions, early warning signs, and the difference between temporary stress and sustained burnout.
Renew - Identify manageable changes, supportive routines, boundaries, and resources that can help participants move forward with greater intention.
Root - Strengthen the relationships, working conditions, team practices, and organizational supports that help people feel valued, capable, and connected.

More Than Self-Care
Burnout is not simply an individual failure to manage stress. Workload, role clarity, autonomy, recognition, relationships, leadership practices, resources, and organizational culture all influence employee well-being.
Our programming can help participants develop personal stress-mitigation practices while also helping teams and leaders examine the conditions surrounding the work.
Depending on the audience, sessions may explore:
-
Which stressors individuals can influence
-
Which barriers require team or leadership action
-
Where employees currently find support
-
What protective factors are missing
-
How teams communicate during high-stress periods
-
How leaders can create healthier working conditions
-
What meaningful recognition and support look like
-
How well-being efforts can connect to retention strategies
Why Plants?
Working with plants creates a natural opportunity to slow down, focus attention, engage the senses, and create something tangible.
Planting is not presented as a cure for burnout. It is used as a grounding experience and a shared point of reflection. Participants leave with a living reminder that growth requires care, the right conditions, appropriate resources, and time.
During the experience, participants may:
-
Create a succulent or houseplant arrangement
-
Practice a brief grounding exercise
-
Reflect on personal sources of stress and restoration
-
Identify existing protective factors
-
Connect with colleagues outside their usual roles
-
Develop one realistic individual commitment
-
Identify one team or organizational action
-
Create a plan for continued reflection and support

Designed by an Educator
Our programming is shaped by 25 years of K–12 experience spanning school counseling, Career and Technical Education, college and career readiness, district leadership, program development, educator support, and student-centered learning.
That experience allows us to consider more than the activity. We consider instructional purpose, accessibility, employee capacity, student engagement, school culture, implementation, and the broader goals of the organization.
Let’s Grow a Healthier Learning Community
Tell us about your students, staff, current priorities, desired outcomes, group size, location, and timeline. We’ll help design an experience that supports the people in your organization as thoughtfully as they support others.
